A Homeowner’s Guide to Saving a Service Call fee.
Check your thermostat batteries first; dead batteries mimic a broken system. Then check your breaker panel for any tripped switches. Sometimes the solution is literally just a flip of a switch.
Pull out your air filter. If it looks like a carpet, replace it immediately. Also, walk around and make sure no furniture, curtains, or dog beds are blocking your vents.
Go outside to your condenser unit. Clear away any weeds, tall grass, or leaves within 2 feet of the unit. Your system needs room to breathe to keep you cool.
Locate your white drain line and float switch near the indoor unit. If the pan under the unit is full of water, your drain is clogged. The safety switch shut it off to save your ceiling.
