The No Drama FAQ Guide

Simple answers to stressful HVAC questions.
Troubleshoot like a pro (or at least like a well-informed neighbor).

🔧 General Troubleshooting

Why won't my system turn on?

Before you panic, check the 'Big Three':

  1. The Air Filter: Is it clogged? A super dirty filter can shut down the system.
  2. Thermostat Batteries: Are they dead? It happens to the best of us.
  3. Circuit Breaker: Did it trip? Check your panel.

If those look good and it's still silent, the Llama is ready to help!

How often should I change my filters?
In Northeast Oklahoma, with our pollen and dust levels, we recommend checking them every 30 days and changing them at least every 90 days. If you have pets or live right on a dusty lake road, you might need to swap them out more often to keep your system breathing easy.

🔥 Furnaces & Heat Pumps

Why is my furnace blowing cold air?
It could be a few things, like a dirty flame sensor (safety shutoff) or a pilot light issue if you have an older unit. Sometimes the burner just isn't igniting. Don't let it chill your bones—give us a shout and we'll diagnose it safely.
Is it normal for my heat pump to have ice on it?
A little light frost in the winter is normal; your system has a built-in 'defrost mode' to melt it away periodically. However, if your unit looks like an igloo or a solid block of ice, that's not normal—you likely have an airflow problem or low refrigerant.

Mini-Splits & Air Handlers

Why is my mini-split leaking water inside?
Usually, this is just a clogged condensate drain line. Dust and algae can build up over time, backing water up into the wall unit. It's a common 'drama' we can fix fast with a good flush and cleaning.
What is that humming noise from my air handler?
A hum usually means power is getting there, but a part isn't moving. It could be a failing capacitor (the battery that starts the motor) or the blower motor itself struggling. Better to catch it now before it stops completely!

📟 Thermostats & Drains

Why is my thermostat screen blank?
Most likely dead batteries (an easy fix!) or a tripped float switch in your overflow drain pan. If new batteries don't work, check your drain line or give us a call.
What is a float switch and why did it shut off my AC?
Think of it as a lifeguard for your ceiling. It's a safety device that automatically stops your AC if the drain line gets clogged and water fills the emergency pan. This prevents water from overflowing and pulling down your ceiling drywall!
