Marine AC Repair
Right at
Your Slip.
Houseboat, cruiser, or yacht — if the cabin AC quits, we come to any marina or private dock on Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. No hauling, no trailering, no drama.
A boat cabin in July heat is a sauna with cupholders. Marine air conditioning isn't the same animal as home AC — it's water-cooled, packed into tight spaces, and running off shore power. That's exactly why we service it.
Why Marine AC Is Different (And Why It Fails on Grand Lake)
Unlike your home system, a marine air conditioner doesn't have an outdoor condenser fan. It rejects heat by pulling lake water through an intake, a sea strainer, and a raw-water pump. On Grand Lake that water carries algae, silt, and — increasingly — zebra mussels that colonize intakes and strainers. When water flow drops, the system overheats, trips on high pressure, and blows warm air even though everything "sounds" like it's running.
The good news: most marine AC failures are water-flow, electrical, or pump problems that we can diagnose and fix in a single dockside visit — with flat-rate diagnostics and an upfront quote before we touch a tool, same as every Cozy Llama call.
Before We Arrive: The 2-Item Checklist
Marine AC systems are cooled by lake water, so we can only run and test your air conditioner if the boat is ready. Here's all we need:
Boat in the Water
Marine AC uses lake water for cooling, so the boat must be in the water — at your slip or dock. Running it dry can destroy the pump, so we never test a boat on a trailer or lift.
Hooked to Shore Power
We need the boat connected to shore power so we can power up the system, run it under load, and test it the way you actually use it at the dock.
Bonus (Not Required)
If you know where the AC unit and breakers are located, that speeds things up — but it's totally optional. If you don't, no worries: finding them is part of what we do.
Common Marine AC Problems We Fix
All makes, all models, all boats — houseboats, cabin cruisers, yachts, and liveaboards. Dometic, Cruisair, Marine Air, Webasto, MarinAire, Mermaid, and more.
Dockside Service, No Drama
1. Tell Us Where You're Docked
Give us the marina (or private dock) and slip number. Any marina on Grand Lake — we'll meet you there.
2. Flat-Rate Diagnostic
We test the system on shore power, check water flow, strainers, electrical, and refrigerant — then give you a firm, upfront quote.
3. Back to Cool Cruising
Most repairs are done in a single visit. If a part has to be ordered, you get an honest timeline — no boat held hostage.
Spring Startup & Fall Shutdown
Boat AC that sat all winter deserves a checkup before the first hot weekend — and a proper winterization before the first freeze. We inspect and clean strainers, test the pump and electrical, and make sure the cabin stays dry and mildew-free in the off-season.
- Spring recommission before Memorial Day weekend
- Fall winterization to protect the system from freeze damage
- Strainer cleaning & inspection — condenser descaling available as an add-on
